I first met Dick in 1998 when I was 27 years old in search of a place to sell soup! I think he could see the passion in my eyes to make it happen. My partner and I always felt like Dick was in our corner. I remember one particular very snowy February when acoss the street was even to far to walk for soup. Well rent was due and I had half if I was lucky! I called Dicks office and asked if I could talk to him. The secretary said " come right up"! I nervously walked into his office started mumbling and procrastinating about snow and restaurant biz and finaily said I have half rent?! With the great smile of his he said " don't worry about it, that's fine"! I probably never would have made it 3 years let alone 10 if it wasn't for Dicks understanding and generosity towards the " little guy" trying to live the American dream. He was truly a GREAT man with a huge heart . My condolences to his family!

Mr. Calabrese was a kind, generous man. He and Marcia hosted our entire cast at their home in Rochester, and hosted many of his son Rich's friends at their retreat on Castle Rest. I will remember him fondly with vivid memories of laughter on the Island and on the boat, where a handsome Captain proudly showed off the beautiful St. Lawrence River. What a class act. Rest in Peace, Mr. Calabrese.

Richard was our attorney for 49 years. He closed on our home in Webster in 1965: he wrote our wills. We shared a common bond in our love for the Thousand Islands. Our cottage on Wellesley Island is not far from his beloved island retreat. Richard was always friendly, helpful and someone endowed with wisdom and common sense. We extend deepest sympathy to the entire family on the loss of this great person.

It is with great sorrow that Richard has passed. I attended law school with his son, Chris. A brief memory of Richard: Every year after graduation, we would have a guy's "fishing" weekend on the island. I would fly in from the west coast and arrive with Chris on the island. Richard was usually waiting for our arrival. As soon as I stepped off the boat, Richard would corral me and proceed to "tour" me around the island asking for my advice or thoughts on island improvements, such as suggested paint colors for the buildings, what I thought of the rock work, etc. It was usually a "hey Allen, come over here and look at this, I want to show you something".This seemed to happen every year. I enjoyed the "tour" and appreciate that he thought enough about me for my thoughts, though sometimes I just wanted to kick back with Chris and enjoy a beverage! But it was wonderful to see the pure joy he had in the constant improvements he was making to the island.
I was blessed to have known him.

In the years that have passed, would see him from time to time and nothing about him seemed to have changed.. One of the best and I`ll miss knowing he is not around.

Marcia, Richard, Christopher, Michael, Anthony and Amy-
My heart aches at the news about "Cousin Richard". I am truly sorry for all of you.
He was certainly one of the most perfect of gentleman and someone who always had a smile and good words to send your way.
He loved his family and I am sure he will be missed beyond words.
Obviously my most vivid memory will be of him guiding his long boat by the stick, along the back channel and by Belle Island.
May God bless his soul and those of all of you.
Most sincerely-

When you are a child, your favorite uncle is the one that gives you toys for Christmas instead of socks or a sweater, but when you grow up, aunts and uncles fade from memory. You lose touch as your immediate family takes center stage, and then you just get on with your life.
I'm lucky to work in downtown Rochester and because of this, I got to see Uncle Dick a lot. He always had a smile for me and when he asked how you were doing, he really meant it. He had a zest for life that people half his age have already lost. When he saw me a couple of months ago, I of course had to come to his office so that he could show me cousin Mike's new Rochester magazine. He was excited to be alive. I will miss him.

So sorry to hear of Dick's death. He was truly a wonderful man. Your description of him in the obituary was perfect--many, many people think of him in that exact way, more than you realize. The Lord has taken many great people in this last year and I am sure they are all looking down on their families giving them the strenght to live their lives and follow the great examples they left for them. It was an honor to know him. May God Bless the Calabrese Family and comfort them during this sad time. He will be missed.

To: Mr. "C" and his beautiful wife, Marcia, and family:
I had the pleasure of having my desk right outside of Mr. "C's" office for the last eighteen years. I have been a legal secretary since June of 1964, and I always knew of Mr. "C". It was my privilege to have known him personally for the last eighteen years. He always called me "kid" even though I am pushing 70. He always told me I was "old school" as a secretary, and he told me that he meant it as a compliment. Mr. "C" you will truly be missed. You were a giant in the legal field, well liked and respected. I do believe that I am a better person because I knew you. There will never ever be another Mr. "C". God bless you my friend.
