I could not have achieved anything noble nor important without both my parents.
My father taught me to be respectful of others, perseverance, hard work, the importance of education, the love of reading, manners, self-discipline and the idea that I could do and be, whatever and whomever, I chose.
I miss him.
Note: the "in memory of" 4 minute slide show presented on the Obituary site, was not created by, approved of, nor particiiated in the creation of, by his family or children.
Sadly, it does not responsibly represent the fullness or richness of my father's life. It does not represent his true character.
It (mis) represents a small part of his later life, while ignoring the fuller first 50 years including those with his wife and those shaping the trajectory of his 7 children's lives.
It was Created by a friend who chose not to share with the public, the whole Truth of Walter Kennedy in the slide show, instead a small piece view minus his greatest achievements and his progeny.
Feel free to write me and I'll share a fuller, truer, memory of my father.

As a kid growing up across the street in the 70's, I remember Walt as the successful Principle and being the head of a large family while still finding time to fly airplanes. He took me up in for my first flight planting the seed that eventually influenced my choices to join the USAF, become a pilot and to eventually pursue a career in aerospace. I am sure he touched many more people than we will ever know. He will still live on though the lives he touched in a positive way. My condolences his family and friends.

When Scott Kennedy and I married and joined our families heaven opened a new door allowing people like Walt to come into our lives. He worked hard to give to others and appreciated all his family. I remember stories of how he used to fly a hot air balloon. Quinlan, Rina, Scott & I enjoyed Walt taking us on flights over the Finger Lakes when we visited. Walt never forgot about us here in Arizona. Having spent so much time as a principal in the schools, he provided so much support for us as our children experienced different teachers and ever changing school systems. Walt's caring and sharing spirit will be missed. Although his gift of being here physically with us has left, we will always hold him in our hearts knowing he is near when we need him.

I am so sorry for the loss of Papa Walt, he will be greatly missed. He was a wonderful grandfather and I could always count on him for a joke, magic trick, or even just a question about what was going on in my life. I am thankful to have been able to take part in the ceremonies today, and I extend my condolences to Miss Irene and my aunts and uncles for the loss of a companion and father.

Miss Irene and Kennedy family,
To some he was dad, others Walter Kennedy, but to me he was and still is Papa Walt. He was a grandpa that was always there and we could always talk to him. He never missed one of my or the other girls birthdays. Report cards always went to him, getting money back. Papa Walt was a great man, and will always live on through us and through our hearts. I am sincerely sorry for your loss of a father or companion, and the worlds loss of a great man.
Love,
Claire Kennedy

Papa Walt means a lot to all of us, whether as a grandfather, a father, a brother, or a partner, or a friend. He is a joyful, loving man, and was always there for anyone who needed him. We should all come together, not split apart, in celebration of his life.

Miss Irene and Kennedy family,
I am so sorry for your loss of a wonderful and loving companion, father, and grandfather. I will always remember my Papa Walt as a grandfather who loved to tell jokes, do magic tricks, and show us whatever new sports car he had (and maybe even let us steer a little). He always wanted to see our report cards and sent us gifts from the Popcorn Factory on holidays. Papa Walt will always remain in the hearts of everyone he loved and everyone he touched.
Thinking of you all,
Maria Kennedy (Mark's daughter)

Dear Irene and the entire Kennedy Family,
I will always remember Uncle Walter as a man with so much energy and a deep love of life. It was such a joy to see everyone at Uncle Walter's 80th birthday. And am so happy to have been able to attend. Uncle Walter never stopped smiling!
What a blessing! I love telling everyone about my amazing Uncle Walter who is still flying airplanes and hot air balloons.
My deepest sympathies to Irene and all my wonderful cousins, and to my dad and Aunt Mary for the loss of their dear brother. I hope your wonderful memories of your husband/dad/brother/uncle/grandfather carry you through this very difficult time.
I bet he's still going to be flying, maybe this time with his own pair of wings.
Love and blessings,
Patty (Ed Kennedy's daughter), Megan and Sarah Kennedy

My Dearest Kennedy Family,
My heartfelt sympathy in Walter's passing. I first met him when the two schools merged and was very active in the envolement of my own children as room mother all the way to PTA President. He taught me so very much about what it takes to be a true leader. As we got to work together on all of the activities he spoke so profoundly of the love he had for his children. He would always keep me well informed as to how each one was doing with such a smile on his face with every word. I was honored to have attended his retirement party at Oak Hill and shall never forget how deeply he touched my life and the lives of my children. His smile was contagious, his ability to touch so many lives with his knowledge was remarkable. I saw him about two years ago and you can imagine how we caught up on each of you. You were blessed to have him as a father and grandfather and I was blessed to have him as a friend and mentor.
Forever Rest In Peace Walter. God Bless you all...

Mr. Kennedy is the kind of person that once you met him, you could never forget him. Whether it was the smell of his cologne, the warmth from his smile, or how you just felt special when you spoke with him, his presence will be missed, but the memories of him will forever endure. As a principal now myself, I teach the Mr. Kennedy Secret Handshake to my own students. each time I do it, I am transported back to the cafeterium in LP and I can see Mr. Kennedy smiling at me. He was a great man, and I am a better person for having known him and had the pleasure of witnessing his leadership. I cannot begin to imagine how many lives were blessed to have shared in his life.

I had the pleasure of working with Walt for nearly nine years. There were many notable strengths that distinguished Walt from the norm. He was a conscientious and giving person that cared deeply for his students, staff parents and colleagues. He had the unique ability to disagree with a philosophy but fully embrace the person. He went out of his way to establish caring, genuine friendships with his colleagues. He was a remarkable dancer, with incredible stamina and skill. He humorously shared stories from his youth where he skipped school to travel to the big Long Island dance halls to hear and dance to Big Band music. Of all the things I liked and admired about Walt, I cherish his ability to communicate the degree to which he cared about people. He spent his life displaying this gift. I am so very grateful for having had the pleasure of his presence in my life.

Kennedy Family,
I am very sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Kennedy. I was one of many kids that had the immense pleasure of having Mr. Kennedy as a principal throughout my elementary school education. I know that I have learned many things fom him but in the eyes of a second grader, learning how to spin a coin was by far the best. I was also lucky enough to win a chance to eat lunch with him and to this day I still have the newspaper picture. My thoughts and sympathy are with you at this time.

To the Kennedy Family,
I had the pleasure of being a student at Pardee School from 1970-1975,while Mr. Kennedy was my Principal. At age 50 now,I look back at those years as special.Mr. Kennedy was a firm but fair Principal. My Mom was a Teacher's Aid while I was attending, even though he knew my Mom well, he was still firm with me if I got into trouble,he showed no favoritism.
Looking back I learned alot from him,to be honest, respectful and to be the best you can be.
He attended my Mom's Funeral in 2010,I, with my brother's and sister were very impressed that he attended.I told him then, how much of an impact he had on my life. He was a natty dresser, always had cool cars, and had style...He will be missed,Truly a great man.
My condolences to you.Walter J. will always be my favorite Teacher/Administrator...
Thank you,
Ron Mancini

Walt was a kind and generous man who went out of his way to help others. When I first came to East Irondequoit as the new principal of Helendale Road School (formerly Pardee School), Walt became my informal mentor. Throughout my first years in EICSD, whenever I had questions about District procedures or policies, I called Walt and found him to be both patient and knowledgeable. Since Walt and I were principals of sister schools, we worked together to ensure the transition from my school to his was smooth in every aspect from curriculum to busing. Many of the teachers in the primary grades at Helendale had worked with Walt at Laurelton-Pardee School prior to redistricting. It was obvious to me how much they both respected and loved him.
Rest well, Walt, and know that you left a strong cadre of professionals from East Irondequoit who both thank you and love you for having been in our lives.

Dear Kathy and Family,
I can pull memories of your dad from childhood of a kind, friendly and smart man. He took me, along with Kathy, on my first plane ride to Syracuse on a summer's night where we got a Coke in the little airport and flew back home. That is a cherished memory. Over the years, I've heard many stories of a fine man and know he has left you with wonderful memories of your own. Rest in peace, Mr. Kennedy.

Dear Kennedy Family,
Your father was principal of my grammar school. He was a great man, and loved by everyone. I still remember some "lessons" that he taught me, with probably the best one being the principal is always your "pal." (He was also teaching us how to correctly spell the word). I still remember seeing your father in the hallways and speaking with him often, even though I am 55 years old. He was a very wise and beloved man - you should all be very proud of him!
Pete
