I was fortunate to spend some time worth Jack at the Fordham Hall of Fame events earlier this year. He radiated a peace, joy, and acceptance that mark a life well-spent. I know the track gods arranged it so that he was there for the Hall of Fame ceremony.
My condolences to the family. He was a good man and his memory will live on with us.

My condolences to the family. I just found out today.
Jack was a team mate at Fordham, and a good friend . Always so positive, and always took the time to pat you on the back. Jack had such a ready smile, and twinkle in his eyes.
And the courage, and dedication he had shown in dealing with the numerous physical disabilities he suffered were truly inspiring!
Given those injuries his sense of humor, and motivation to overcome those handicaps were truly amazing. His emails were always so upbeat.
Jack will be missed. My prayers to the family , and for the repose of his soul.
And I will ask Jack to put in a good word for me to the Good Lord.
Peace be with you. Frank Tome Fordham Track 1963

Like a lot of others I received tremendous support and encouragement
from Jack when I needed it most. He had a great influence on my running while at Frodham and of course he went on to influence many others. He certainly gave me practical track advice, but he had the vision, the
big picture and the determination t guide me to bigger results.. I didn't have a
clue and Jack instilled goals, and the ability to set them, in me.
But much more importantly, Jack knew his Savior and God.
John 17:3.
And this is life eternal, that they may know thee, the one true God
and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.
In the time I have left I will be grateful to the Lord for Jack's friendship.
May the Lord richly bless his family.

Good by my friend, You will always be remembered!
I met Jack in 1969, He came into our math class and introduced himself as our new Math Teacher and Track Coach. He was young, agressive, and cocky and made our team into one of the best in the NYC area in just 2 short years. He treated us with the utmost respect and expected the same. Through his guidence he directed us to go on to successful college & business careers.
I'll never forget his words of wisdom, It was my freshman year and I was struggling with classes and fitting in with my new team, Jack called and said "Hang in there Champ, you only get one chance at an opportunity like this'- don't blow it", He was so right!!!
Thank you for everything Champ! You are now with the running gods and I heard they were looking for another leg for their 4X800!

Farewell to a great HS classmate and inspiring track teammate and member of the National Record Holding Stepinac Two Mile Relay. It was apparent that Jack was hurting at the 50th Reunion but, typical Jack, he wasn't quitting and was going ahead working hard to the last. It was his indomitable spirit that made him a champion. It was an honor to be his teammate.

It was great to see Jack at last year's Stepinac 50th Reunion. As with most reunions, we quickly caught up with 50 years of life, then moved on to war stories about our years in those hallowed halls. We had great times at Stepinac, and no small measure of success -- maybe none more so than Jack on the track. There was the national high school record in the 2 mile relay highlighting a great senior year. But my favorite memory (probably because I ran on the relay team) was Jack on the anchor leg, running step for step and just edging the Andrew Jackson anchor to make us the Eastern States Mile Relay Champions. That gritty competitiveness belied the gentle, caring good friend off the track. I wish I'd kept in touch in the 50 years that followed, but I'm smiling, with moist eyes, as I write this. So glad we reconnected.
My condolences to his family and friends. I knew him "when." You knew him when it really counted. He has run swiftly to Our Father, Who art in Heaven. Pax Vobiscum, Jack.

Met Jack while taking the entrance exam prior to acceptance at Stepinac. We were in Father DiBlasi's 1-A homeroom and ran some track Freshman year. He stuck with it. He also surprised me by playing football despite being about 140 pounds. Later we teamed up on guitar with Ted Homa for a talent show. Talked with him briefly at recent reunion. Didn't realize how ill he was.
God bless his family and friends. RIP
