Obituary of Joseph Anthony Delpopolo

Rochester: November 7, 2014. Born in Dunkirk, NY, Joseph was a graduate of SUNY Fredonia, University of Wyoming, and achieved the rank of PhD from Pennsylvania State University in 1958. He served at SUNY Cortland as Professor of Education and the Director of the Academic Field Experience Program. In his later years, Joseph taught at Nazareth College of Rochester as lecturer in the Education Department and Supervisor of Student Teaching. Predeceased by his daughter, Mary Jo Myer, his parents, Pauline and Philip DelPopolo, his sister, Rosemary Gliwa, Joseph is survived by his wife, Leslie, and his son, Philip as well as his grandchildren Melissa, Paula, and Joseph DelPopolo, Bennett P. Myer, and great-granddaughter, Blaine. He is also remembered by his stepchildren and grandchildren: Mary Beth (Greg) Tuttle, Michael (Noel) Cronmiller, William (Dawn) Cronmiller and Steven Cronmiller; Georgia, Eric, Claire, Paul Tuttle; Cody and Olivia Cronmiller; Zoe Cronmiller; and Charlie and Maggie Cronmiller. A veteran of World War II who served on the USS Guadalcanal, Joe was a strong believer in early childhood education. He loved working with his hands restoring antique furniture and lawnscaping. He also ran competitively in local 5K and 10K events. Finally, Joe was a passionate supporter and fan of the Penn State Nittany Lions. His family will receive friends Sunday 4:00 - 7:00pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Hwy South). Friends are invited to meet the family Monday 10:00 am at Spiritus Christi for his funeral mass.
