Gerhard will always be a person to whom I feel deep admiration. He was a role model for two different interests, the first was his interest in German and European history and the second was his interest in wines. Due to his influence I began to do more serious investigation into German history and also into wines. His legacy is to show people how to foster an interest in paleontology and also have other interests and make it interesting and fun. He will be remembered fondly in my memories and I hope that sometime in the future I can say I had as much fun as he did.

To the Leubner Family:
Please accept my sincere sympathy at the loss of your father. He was a valued member of the Company at Kirkridge for many years, and often brought fine wines for our Saturday evening gathering at weekend retreats. I remember him for his warmth, humor, and generosity. I am very sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace.

Thinking of you all today as you say goodbye to Gerry. He was such an interesting, intelligent, and enlightened man. He also had a sparkle in his eye and a mischievous grin... He had so many interests and hobbies and so many interesting things to talk about. Will you ever forget his raspberries next to the pool? He certainly led a full life and was loved by so many. I will never forget him. Love to all, Linda

Gerhard was a dedicated "digger" for many years at the Hiscock paleontological site in Byron, NY. The site is known for its mastodont remains. Here he is in 2006 taking on the task of preparing sieve tags. The "Byron Diggers" will fondly remember his companionship in the field, the annual white wine tastings, and the twinkle in his eye.

To Gerhard's Family,
Roselyn and I are deeply saddened to learn of Gerhard's passing. For many years he was an important and much-loved part of the Byron Dig, our archaeological excavation in Genesee County. His sense of humor and enthusiasm were contagious, and helped to get us through some rigorous times.
Foremost in my mind is the annual wine tasting that he staged during the final week of the Dig. This was always looked forward to, and his discussion about the fine points of wines were greatly appreciated. In fact, after he had to stop participating in the Dig, we held a wine (actually, grape juice and cheese) tasting party in his name on the traditional day, and remembered what he gave to us.
Gerhard's passing leaves a hole in the fabric of our lives, but also very pleasant memories that will stay with numerous people for many, many years. Thank you,
Gerhard, for the time and the pleasure that you gave us.
Fondly,
Dick and Roselyn Laub
