Obituary of James G. Laragy

Laragy, James G.
Webster: Jim died peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2017 following a brief illness at the age of 86. He is predeceased by his sister, Jane Walsh and brother, William Laragy. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia (Cook) Laragy; his son, James G. Laragy, Jr.; daughter, Molly and son-in-law Stephen Dertinger; and his much loved grandchildren Samantha, Benjamin, Trevor, and Claire Dertinger. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Don Murphy and his sister, Norma Waters. He also leaves many wonderful relatives and friends.
Jim served in the U.S. Navy (1952-1954) with the Atlantic Fleet Camera Party. He received his B.F.A. in Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1958. Jim was an award-winning staff photographer at Gannett Rochester Newspapers for over 35 years. Jim has had photos published in TIME Magazine and National Geographic Magazine.
Calling hours will be held Thursday 4:00 – 7:00 at Paul W. Harris Funeral Home, 570 Kings Hwy S, Rochester. On Saturday please join the family at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Church, Webster. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to Open Door Mission, PO Box 14236, Rochester, NY 14608 or St. Joseph's Villa, 3300 Dewey Ave., Rochester, NY 14616.
