My deep condolences to Mrs. D's family. I'm sad to hear she passed away. She was a big influence on me in cheerleading at IHS. Wow, that was so long ago! Thanks for sharing the photos; it's no surprise she led a full, happy and active life. She was a strong woman and I am happy she imparted that strength on to so many of us.

Dear Joe,
I learned of your Mom's passing and was saddened. But, I was also joyful at having had her feature so highly in my life while I lived in Rochester. She was a beacon of sunshine, joy, tolerance, open-mindedness, pure fun, and love. She truly took you into her heart when she loved you. I had the honor of basking in that for a time. Teaching at Walk-In-Workout was one of the many gifts Pat gave me. I learned over time that she had taught at Irondequoit with my great Aunt Norma and Uncle Butler when she was a new teacher starting out. It was along that journey with Pat that we went from just feeling like to family to actually being family. I cannot help but smile and giggle when I think of her. She is forever loved. Sending you and your family deepest sympathies, and much, much love. Suzanne (Suzy) Scott

Pat , Mrs D has been one of the most influential people in my life - her support, encouragement, and friendship begin in my teenage years and continued on from there - I am forever grateful for the opportunities of growth that I was able to experience because of knowing Pat - as my teacher, coach, employer, fitness brainstorming buddy and friend.
Love always

I met your mother a few years ago when I started volunteering at St. Andrew's Food Cupboard. We hit it off instantly. We had so many laughs together and shared many memories. One day at the Cupboard she asked me what my last name was. When I told her what it was, she asked me if I was related to Mike Lopa. I told her he was my husband and that he passed a year ago. Patty said that she was teaching at Franklin HS when Mike was in high school. She started telling the staff at the Cupboard that I was married to Mike, and that Mike was the best athlete to come out of Rochester. I was so surprised that she knew about him. If Mike were there when she was saying that, he would have been embarrassed. He never talked about his accomplishments. But, I was so proud listening Patty tell the group.
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I think of her often and cherish the time that we spent together. I wish that I met her long ago when we were both younger. Barb Lopa

Mrs D was a wonderful person who was a task master but also very compassionate and supportive. She was my sister’s swim show director and cheerleading coach. She was the choreographer for musicals I was in. Her drive to make you do your best did just that. I would run into her years later and she remembered our times together.
Thanks Pat!

I grew up in West Irondequoit and attended school there. In 1962, my parents made the silly decision to move to another town. For almost an entire year, I took a bus back and forth to West Irondequoit High School each day until I was caught and told I was a non resident. In other words, I was no longer a West Irondequoiter.
Mrs. D'Ambrosia was the reason I didn't want to leave.. She was the gold standard of teaching and coaching.
I aspired to be a swimmer and began competitive swimming and diving under her guidance.
She was hard to leave. Her warm personality, firm encouragement and genuine caring will never be forgotten.
I'm 70 years old now. Mrs. D left an impression that I've carried and told countless others about.

Pat was the kind of person who naturally attracted loyalty and respect. She was leading aerobics/zumba classes at Harro East when I first met her. My wife, Dana, was a class member. Pat knew so much and could keep a class going for maximum participation. Many of the ladies in the class became good friends with Pat. So much so that when I went to her house last week to pick up tax information from her prior to preparing her taxes, her loyal friends were at her house not only with the news that she was hospitalized but they had started to clean house and put things in order as a gesture of friendship. That kind of friendship is uncommon and special.
Pat had a big heart and a sharp mind. While her physical self will be missed, her passion for life will still inspire the rest of us.

Thanks to Mrs D starting the program, I had the opportunity to run Track and Field at West Irondequoit in my senior year. This was the only sport I participated in during high school and it was a great experience.

I can’t think of a single IHS student who didn’t think Mrs D was the coolest. She was so positive, so encouraging and very talented. I had her for gym class and synchronized swimming. I remember seeing her years after I graduated at an aerobics class and she remembered me - I was in awe of her lifetime commitment to fitness and how healthy and happy she always looked. My condolences to Joe and the family.

To the "D" family,
I am heartbroken for your loss. Mrs "D" was not a coach nor teacher of mine, but as an athlete I knew her well....she made sure I did. We had talks that I still remember and there was a part of me that grew directly because of her and our talks about what it meant to be an outstanding athlete and person in life.
I am in Florida or I would most definitely be there to pay my respects, but please know you will be in my prayers as I Understand your loss and I truly feel for you.
Prayers to you.
Rest In Peace Mrs D

Pat was always a bright light in our lives. Her infectious love of life and never ending curiosity was an inspiration. She had a wonderful way of gathering great people to her and always had an open door. She was interested in the latest goings on and always up for a show. Her stamina was legendary and she left most of us in her dust! Pat always smiled and was so happy to see you, wanting to know "what's going on?". Being part of her workout class was a treat, with the jazz box, new routines, always asking "is anybody out there counting?", and shouting "Sing out Louise" as we sang our way through broadway tunes while jumping around on the steps and lifting weights. And then the inevitable, "Where are we going?" We had so many wonderful times, with Pat at the center, pulling us all in. One of my favorite vacations was going to NYC with some of the HARRO girls, seeing Joey, taking in broadway shows and eating wonderful food-all amazing because of the company. Pat has changed so many lives and her light still shines through us. But her presence is sorely missed. Much love my friend.
