Robert R. Kimmel
Irondequoit: Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the age of 91. Pre-deceased by his loving wife of 52 years, Janet. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bob & Sara Kimmel; grandchildren, Margaret, Bobby, Julia & Elissa Kimmel; nieces, Sharon (Dennis) McGuire, Lynn (Sam) Scalzo, Suzanne (Jim) Lee; nephew, Joseph (Donna) Walsh.
Bob will always be remembered as a fun, kind, gentle and loving person who greeted people with a hug and an infectious smile.
He Joined the Navy, at the age of 17, in 1945 and received an honorable discharge a little more than a year later in 1946. Following the end of WWII, Bob began working in at the Rochester Kimmel Company as a machinist helping to fabricate household appliance parts as part of the family business. After a brief time as a postal carrier, he began his career with Irondequoit Police Department in the summer of 1957 and retired at the rank of Sergeant after 31 years of dedicated service. "Sarge" had a passion for supporting his community and helped people in their most vulnerable moments. He created an impact through humility and respect toward everyone he met.
He and Janet enjoyed many summers living on the shoreline of Lake Ontario and always looked forward to that time with family and friends. They took advantage of many international travel opportunities together and always enjoyed sharing stories from their adventures. When not traveling or at the lake, Bob and Janet loved to spend time with their son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
Bob was loved by many and made countless friends throughout his lifetime, even through the final days of battling Alzheimer's. The family would like to thank everyone who provided support to him including neighbors, friends, family and the amazing team within the St. Anne's community and Lifetime Hospice.
His family will receive friends Sunday 1-4pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Hwy S.) where his funeral service will be held Monday at 10:00am. Interment Irondequoit Cemetery. To share a memory or send the family a condolence, please visit www.harrisfuneralhome.com.
