On behalf of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 1114 of Cary/Apex, NC, we are deeply saddened to recently discover Mr. Brookins' passing last October. Truly an amazing patriot in so, so, so many ways.
Mr. Brookins was our honorary speaker several years ago at a special meeting on his way south to Florida with his son. Our members packed the large room of the Apex Community Center and I can remember among many great stories, Mr. Brookins stood for over an hour to address our 100 members present. That was a feat in itself, never mind his sense of humor of "I don't buy green bananas."
My daughter, Caroline came to the meeting as she often did and we all remember her taping down cords to the floor to prevent a hazard and taking personal interest in talking with Mr. Brookins. We have a digital recording of Mr. Richard Brookins' talk, if family was interested.
Our deepest sympathy to the amazing family of our hero, Mr. Richard Brookins. In the short time we got to know him, it will forever live in our memories and Chapter records.

I just finished watching The American Saint Nick after it was suggested in my video feed for a holiday collection. I was searching to see how he has been doing since then and I am sorry to hear of his recent passing. My prayers for your family and all those who knew him to bear such a loss.
It was a nice reminder of the good that can happen in this world, even amidst the backdrop of a world war no less. I think we all need reminders like these to buoy ourselves up from the climate of current events that can weigh us all down. I was amazed at how kind the people of Wiltz were as well; another brief window into why those born then were called the Greatest Generation.
Much Love and Respect to you and your generation for your sacrifices, services, heroism, humanity, and kindness when it seemed the world was cast in a collapsing shadow...I wish I could carry the spirit of these men and women into the future, for it will always be needed...

I worked with Dick at RTC and joined him for breakfast many Wednesday mornings over the past five years. His service to his country, his employer and his many friends was unequaled. I will forever be glad to have known Dick and to have been one of his many friends. Unfortunately we were away for two weeks at the time of his passing. Please accept my sincerest condolences. Dick will be missed by many who were proud to call him "friend".

It was with the deepest of sadness I read of Richard's passing. He was lucky to have such a wonderful family and to have lived a full and rewarding life. I treasure the autographed poster and tale of St. Nicholas on CD. Please know that he and your family are in our prayers.

I was sorry to read about Richards passing but having been his Physican for about 50 years and helping him thru his multiple problems with heart and lungs He certainly had an amazing life. I was happy that David was able to takeover when I retired. I have his book The American St Nick on my bookshelf and read it over from time to time. It was really an honor and pleasure to be his personal physician.

I didn't know tour father, but my husband, Robert Dale, was one of his doctors. He cleared your father medically for that last visit to the town of Wiltz and encouraged him to make the trip, a daunting experience for someone in his ninties.
We were so impressed by your father's story and enjoyed the PBS special about him and what he had done. As your know, your father was a wonderful man. My husband admired him. Your father defended his country yet took the time to perform a great act of kindness for a little village. Short on food and hope, he lifted the spirits of the people of Wiltz and performed what they must have considered a miracle. It's not every village that sees the visit of Santa Claus! How wonderful that Luxembourg recognized him.
I am so sorry for your loss and hope the memories you have of your Dad will help you through this sad time. I can understand some of what you feel, since my husband died suddenly in March. Bless you.
Joann Dale, MD
