Leipold, Paul Arthur

Greece: Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at age 76. Paul is survived by his wife, Betsy; children, Eric (Kate), Susan & Elena; grandchildren, Matthew, Jackson, Clark, Ezra & Maggie; sister, Lenore (Tom) Wolford; sister-in-law, Virginia Browne; nieces, nephew and many dear friends.

Paul was born in Buffalo, but moved to the farm in LeRoy, where his sister and brother-in-law still live, when he was 3 years old. As part of a 4-H project in high school Paul planted a hillside of pine trees. He loved going back to the farm every year to pick the “perfect” Christmas tree. He loved walking around the farm, checking out the garden and looking for the skunk cabbage every spring.

Besides his family, one of the things Paul loved was sailing and being on the water. He was a member of both the Rochester Yacht Club and the Genesee Yacht Club. On Tuesday and Wednesday nights from May to September he could be found on Lake Ontario racing his sailboat. This passion brought other joys into his life in the form special time with his children and lifelong friendships he made along the way. Paul also enjoyed hunting. When the boats were put away for winter, it was time to think about hunting season which brought varied success, but good friends and delicious Christmas roasts.

Paul loved to read, and in the evening could be found sitting at the kitchen table with the newspaper. One of Paul’s other interests was woodworking. He took some of his education money from Kodak to go to boat building school and over the years has acquired an extensive workshop. However, there are still end tables to be built and boats to finish if any of their friend are up to the task.

Paul worked as a Patent Attorney for almost 20 years at Kodak. After “retiring” in 2006 he took a position at the Harter, Secrest and Emery Law firm until officially retiring in 2012.

Paul and Betsy enjoyed traveling. Being a history buff, especially the civil war, Paul and Betsy (and the kids when forced) spent time visiting a lot of the battle fields in through out the country. Some of their other favorite trips were the Royal Clipper sailing yacht and their annual trip to Punta Cana with a group of good friends. They also could be found every June attending the Rochester International Jazz Festival.

Paul’s infectious smile, quick wit and boisterous laugh made it easy for him to make friends through out his lifetime. His friends and family will carry that laughter in their hearts and he will be greatly missed by all that were lucky enough to know him.

His family will receive friends Friday, September 13, 4:00 - 7:00pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Highway So.). Friends are invited to meet the family Saturday, September 14, 2:00 pm at Lakeview Community Church for his funeral service. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
