Obituary of Rev. Dorthea Yoder-Foster

Irondequoit: B: March 11, 1946- D: Sept. 21, 2019. Born in Cleveland, Ohio 5th of 6 children of Eleanor H. and William Yoder. Predeceased by sister Marcia (Gill) Brown, nephew, Edward (Rita) Yoder, and sister-in-law Carole (Wilson) Yoder, great-nephew Jack Proodian. Survived by beloved husband, Lee Foster; brothers, Wilson Yoder, Jerry Yoder (Carmel), Robert Yoder (Kathy Stephens-Yoder), David (Susan) Yoder. Beloved Aunt to Connie King, Lynn Miller, Jill (Jim) Proodian, Reneé (fiancé Michael Hand), Laura (Ken) DeCoste, Lisa (Brad) Martin, Lesley Yoder, Kathy (Anthony) Bass, Maria (Matthew) Switzer, David (Nicole)Yoder, Kristen (Lee) Popper, Mark (Lisa Melchoir) Brown and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews, step-children Chad (Sarah) Foster, Dane (Jessica) and three grandchildren, Paige, Drew, and Ross, and many long-time friends.

Dottie attended John Marshall HS in Cleveland, Cleveland Institute of Music, Cleveland State University, Malone University, and McCormick Theological Seminary. She sang as mezzo soloist in Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2: Resurrection, with Robert Shaw, the Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus, and many church choirs. She co-authored, with Rev. James Evinger, an article in The Journal of Religion & Abuse: "Sexual Abuse, Forgiveness and Justice: A Journey in Faith."

She taught music at Lutheran East HS in Cleveland; Akron HS; Asst. Pastor 1st Presbyterian, Amarillo TX; Campus Minister, Topeka University, KS; Jacksonville University and Jacksonville Comm. College, FL; Senior Pastor for 23 years at Summerville Presbyterian Church, Rochester, and Chaplain for Harris Funeral Home.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 11th, 4-7pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Highway So.) Dottie's memorial service will be held Saturday, October 12th, 11:00 am at Lake Avenue Baptist Church, 72 Ambrose St., Rochester, NY 14608.
