Mike was good friend at IHS that I unfortunately lost contact with after we both moved away to go in the military. I know I would have liked him even more as an adult. There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer warrior. I have deep respect for him as my service in the Navy paled in comparison to his in the Army. My condolences to the Keating family and friends.

I recall a knock on my door one night. It was about 11:30 at night in the middle of the winter. I opened to find Mike standing there. " Brendan, lets go ski bobbing, it's beautiful out! " It was a cloudless night with a huge full moon, and the air was perfectly still. We grabbed a few "supplies" and trekked to Durand Eastman park. Bobbing down one hill climbing the next and bobbing our way to the Holy Grail : Suicide Hill. It was completely silent except for the swoosh of skis passing through fresh powder. The beauty of those ski bobs was you didn't need a straight hill so we weaved our way through the trees for hours occasionally coming upon a herd of deer who would intently watch us maneuver through the obstacles. Midnight ski bobbing was born and became a routine. I spent many hours with Mike talking, laughing and enjoying the Xanadu of Gods making.

My deepest sympathies to the family. Mike had several friends at the Veterans Outreach Center. We would all meet at out Morale center on certain Tuesday and just have a good time listening to live music and eating good food. Myself, the group and staff at the VOC are going to miss him very much.
