Obituary of Stephen P. Zaffuto
Stephen P. Zaffuto
Fayetteville, NC: Suddenly on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the age of 41. Stephen is survived by his mother, Marlaine (Terry) Featherly; brother, Todd Featherly; father, Stephen (Christine) Zaffuto; sisters, Amber (Bill) Marshall, Christina Zaffuto; grandmother, Rose Johnston; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Stephen joined the U.S. Army in April of 2006 and trained at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. He was then sent to Fort Bragg in N. Carolina and was in the 82nd Airborne Division. Dispatched to Afghanistan in 2006 he was injured and returned to the states in early 2007 where he received his first stripe and became Sgt. Stephen P. Zaffuto. He then joined the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in October 2007 and served proudly in Laos, Cambodia, Viet Nam, Guam and Germany searching for those soldiers that were deemed Missing In Action to bring them home. He returned stateside to Ft. Bragg in 2012 and left the Army due to his surgeries and injuries in 2015. He loved his job, loved his service years and retired as a SFC after a little more than eight years in, which was quite an accomplishment.
Anyone who ever met Stephen knew there was no one quite like him~ his sarcasm and wit were well known and always made those around him smile. Hopefully those happy memories will carry us through.
We will miss you Stephen, but trust that you are truly in a better place, and no one deserves that more than you.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, October 19th, from 2-6pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Highway So.). Military Honors and Interment will be held at a later date in the Veterans Section of Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
