Obituary of Patricia Ann Moore

Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mrs. Patricia “Patty” Moore (née Shannon) died unexpectedly, yet peacefully, in the hospital on November 14, 2019, in Rochester, New York at the age of 75.

Patricia was born to parents Joseph and Gerda Shannon on July 30, 1944, in Rochester, New York. She grew up as the eldest of six and attended Our Lady of Mercy High School. After graduating from Rosary Hill College in Amherst, New York she moved to Dayton, Ohio where she worked and raised her family.

Patty worked for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Logistics Command until her retirement in 2012. She volunteered teaching 3rd grade religious education at her church, St. Peter Catholic Church, in Huber Heights, Ohio. Patricia was also involved in various Masonic organizations including becoming an advisor for the Order of DeMolay and Order of Rainbow for Girls and being a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Patty married Ralph S. Moore in 1969, and the couple had three children before getting divorced in 1980. Patty is survived by her daughters, Heather Russell (Ryan) and Colleen Rasnack (Joe); her brothers Frederick Shannon (Frances) and Terrence Shannon; 6 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Shannon Moore-Ellis (Eric); her parents Joseph and Gerda; three brothers, Johnny, Joe, and John.; and her nephew Joey.

Patty loved to live her life, and she spent every moment she could with her friends and family. She was quick to smile and laugh, and she loved playing cards, especially Bridge and Euchre. She could often be heard requesting “one more pot of coffee” and “one more game of cards” late into the night. In her early years she taught herself to sew and shared her skill with those she loved; whether it was hilarious matching holiday outfits or beautiful elegant gowns, her daughters, nieces, and granddaughters are grateful to have something that she created with her own hands. Patty was much more creative and artistic than she ever thought herself to be, and she had a surprisingly sharp wit that shone through in the most unexpected moments.

The generosity Patty showed her family and friends was beyond measure. Her selflessness and compassion touched the lives of many people. Patty gave us the gift of unconditional love, showing by example how to be courageous, kind, and joyful no matter the circumstances. Patty was incredibly humble, but the truth is she was exceptional, as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, daughter, and friend. Patty’s faith in God and love of family made the world brighter; it’s a legacy that lives on through all who knew and loved her.
