Ranalletta, Jean (Jean E. Foley, MD - Jean Tomaselli)
Irondequoit: Sunday, November 24, 2019 at the age of 95. Predeceased by her beloved husbands, Dr. B. Louis Tomaselli and Roger P. Ranalletta; infant son, Michael Tomaselli; cherished daughter Kathleen Tomaselli. Jean is survived by her daughters, Karen (Douglas) Horstmann, Dubuque, IA, Mary Anne (Kenneth) Cattieu Silsby, Buffalo, NY, Louise (Timothy) Costello, Pittsford, NY, Peggy (Paul) Brantley, Mooresville, NC, Ellen (Robert) Chamberlain, Croghan, NY, Jean Marie (Cory) Buxton, Corvallis, OR; son, Michael J. Jean was born in Rochester, NY, and attended Our Lady of Good Counsel, Nazareth Academy and Nazareth College. In 1945, she was the first Nazareth College graduate to attend medical school and subsequently graduated from Marquette University School of Medicine. She returned home and began her medical career with a multiyear stint of hospital rounds, housecalls and clinical work. Pregnant with her sixth child at the time of the death of her first husband, Dr. Tomaselli, in 1961, she moved her practice to the basement of her Irondequoit home. She focused on family medicine and women, including Sisters from various Catholic orders since they held a special place in her heart, and provided care at her office and in patients' homes. In 1967, she married Mr. Ranalletta, a widower, which brought together their two families and led to the birth of her last child. She continued her medical practice until she retired in 1988. Jean was a woman of great faith, a founding and longstanding member of St. Margaret Mary Church, and attended daily mass throughout her adult life even as a resident of St. Ann's Community at Cherry Ridge.
Her family will receive friends Friday, December 6, 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Highway So.). Friends are invited to join the family Saturday, December 7, 11:00 am at St. Kateri at St. Margaret Mary Church for her funeral mass. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Lifetime Assistance, 425 Paul Road, Rochester, NY 14624 or Sisters of St. Joseph, 150 French Road, Rochester, NY 14618.
