I am shocked and extremely saddened to learn so late of Jack's passing!
I am 66 years old and met Jack so many years ago on weekly visits to the "White City' IGA Grocery store.
It was our families "go to" for all our grocery needs.
Jack was alway there and in my opinion, never a more kind, friendly and helpful man could be found.
If my memory surves me correctly, he and IGA store was the first grocery outlet that took on purchasing and reselling
Geraniums and Annuals flowers, delivered from my Grandparents and our family business at Clarks Greenhouses on Saint Paul Blvd..
We had moved away from Rochester & Irondequoit - Just returning after nearly 40 years in 2016 where I ran into Jack, at an Irondequoit Art show, and his beautiful smile was something that had never forgotten !!!!! - I said "excuse me, would you be Jack
Herrema?" And he said yes! and we a wonderful chat for a bit, after I told him my name.
Of course, the retail professional he was, remembered everything from the past...
I am so happy to have known him, as I always enjoyed the many interactions I had over the years with Jack.
He was very comforting to me when he spoke to me on my Fathers passing, in the summer of 1997,
He imparted fond memories of my Dad and some of the things he remembered of him.
What a great man and individual your family had in Jack.
My very deepest Condolences.

Dear Judy, Greg, Jeff, John and Erik...
Please accept our sincere condolences. We have known Jack for many years and always enjoyed talking with him at the store and the boys' piano recitals.

Jack was the nicest man. He was kind and generous. When my father passed away, Jack donated a meat tray for the gathering after the funeral. Always had a smile on his face and always greeted you by name.. May he rest in peace. A donation on my part was made to the Irondequoit Community Cupboard.

Met Jack when he was still in White City and I assumed the position of manager of Security Trust Company at the Stutson Plaza. He later moved into the plaza and we became "neighbors!" He always had time to stop and talk and ask about other employees of the bank or my own family. The last time we talked ( a few months back) he still remembered my husband's and son's names and asked how they were doing. He was a pleasure to do business with, and even past that, a genuinely good guy who I will miss seeing at the store. My sincerest condolences to his family, who he always talked about, and brought me current on their lives and their families! A gentleman for sure and one I will remember.

I grew up in the Summerville area. Im 75 years old and I can remember walking down to White City and buying a candy bar.
I still shop at herrema's and it was always a pleasure to say good morning to Jack. And yes it is true that he did remember everybody's name. In the old days when he was on Washington Ave. Even in modern times when he sold the store he made it a point to introduce me to Dave Breen the new owner. It's hard to imagine not seeing Jack around the bread rack when I stop by to get my coffee. He will be missed.

I was happy to know Jack from the time he became a member at Lake Shore CC until I saw him in baked goods last winter. Lake Shore was fortunate to have a lot of great people members and Jack was as good as any. I pray blessings over Judy and the rest of the family.

Knew Jack for about 15 years from shopping at the store and considered him a friend. Always kind and gentle with a good sense of humor. He will be missed.
