Obituary of Bert Alexander
Bert Alexander Jr.
Rochester: Monday, December 14, 2020 at the age of 78. He is survived by his loving wife, Harriet of 51 years; son, Bertram Alexander; daughter, Rosalind Alexander; grandchildren, Taylor Alexander, Brandon Maning, Hersh Alexander and great grandchild, Malani Holmes; siblings, Levester Campbell, Phillip (Reva) Alexander, and Perry (Debra) Alexander; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Franklin Bethune, Winnifred Griffin, Cornel Bethune, and Frederick Brantley; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bert was a School Administrator in the Rochester City School District for over 35 years. He retired as Principal of Frederick Douglas Middle School in 2002. Bert described his career as his ministry. He was actively engaged in his community and church and had a special interest in reaching out to others in need. Bert was a highly respected pillar of the community and truly enjoyed people.
He was a devoted and faithful member of his church where he served in the Men's Choir, Men's Ministry and chaired the Men's Breakfasts on numerous occasions. Not only did Bert enjoy conversing with others but he often took to pen to share deeper thoughts and congratulatory regards.
One of Bert's greatest passion's was planting and growing his collard greens garden in which he delighted in giving them away. Bert cherished and loved being a grandfather and spoiling his three grandchildren and great grandchild. He described himself as the 'gofer; for the children. Out of all of his accomplishments, grand-parenting was his greatest joy.
His family will receive friends Sunday, December 20, 1-4pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Highway So.). Bert's private funeral service will be livestreamed on Monday December 21st at 10:00am on the Paul W.
