Survived by his loving wife of 45 years Mary Ann, his mother Dorothy and his children Meghan (Mike) Lagnese, Daniel and Brian (Megan) and his precious grandchildren Ella and Evan and “baby Lomb” his third grandchild due this April; sisters Cindy (Greg) Wise and Linda (Joe) Werner and brothers Jeffrey, Gregg (Marta), Michael (Aimee), David (Traci). He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Tom (Lieve), Ray (Tammy), and Bill Bain and sister-in-law Sue Bain-Lucey (Jim) and many caring nieces and nephews.
Throughout his 27 year career with Wegmans he built so many cherished friendships and was proud of his work on the Coaches vs. Cancer program, LPGA and other events. Always eager to share his knowledge and talents to help others, Don spent many years coaching town youth basketball and baseball programs. He loved collegiate basketball especially the Syracuse Orange (Go Cuse!). When not working or coaching Don loved to spend time with family at Rushford Lake.
With tremendous courage, Don fought the rare disease amyloidosis for twelve years. Blessed to receive a heart transplant in 2009, this provided many more years and cherished memories with his family and friends.
Those closest to him will remember his unshakable faith, unwavering strength, unbreakable determination, dedication and commitment. Caregivers and fellow patients will remember his compassion and humor.
The family is grateful to his heart donor, to the health care professionals who cared for him, to the Wegman family and to everyone who has given our family their love and support.
Don’s spirit, never give up attitude as well as our cherished memories will keep his legacy alive forever.
Services and interment will be held in private. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
