Obituary of Marie Shay Eichner
Irondequoit. Died June 9, 2021. Age 95. Predeceased by her husband James Leo Eichner. Born in Croton Falls, NY. Survived by her sons Jeffrey (Dr. Esther Tanzman), Richard (MaryJo), and John (Carol), daughter Anne Eichner-Wilczewski (Walter Wilczewski), 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Marie was the seventh of ten children and became the first in her family to go to college. In 1947 she graduated from Keuka College with honors with a degree in chemistry and began her career at Eastman Kodak Company. She met her husband James, who also worked for Kodak, in 1949 through a church group and married in 1950, becoming a fulltime wife and mother shortly thereafter. They were happily married for more than 66 years and spent over 55 years in their house on Oakview Drive in Irondequoit, where Marie was heavily involved in neighborhood activities. Marie was very devoted to her friends and family and served as a wonderful role model for everyone she knew, especially her children and grandchildren. She volunteered extensively throughout her life with organizations supporting the Rochester community, including delivering Meals on Wheels for more than 30 years, and volunteering at St. Ann's Home, Christ the King Church, and Rochester General Hospital. In the summer of 2016, she moved to Cherry Ridge in Webster and resided there until her death, making many new friends and renewing some old friendships. Thank you to all staff and caretakers for providing the support necessary to make a loving home. A private Memorial Service will be held at some future date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Meals on Wheels (https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/home-care/meals-on-wheels.aspx), the Nativity Preparatory Academy of Rochester (https://nativityrochester.org), or a charity of your choice in her name would be greatly appreciated.
