I have special memories of my Aunt Jo. At a very young age, I remember her as the fashionable blonde in a family full of brunettes. She impressed me with her independence, sense of adventure and generosity. For my ninth birthday (1967), she gave me a gift that was as cool as I could imagine - high end, white bell bottom hip huggers with a matching mod orange top. My birthday is in August and the outfit was not made for hot summer days, but I couldn't wait to put it on.
Throughout my mother's life (Stella), she and Aunt Joe would have long phone conversations. My mother loved hearing news about Patrick and Lucille who she held in such high regard. Aunt Jo was equally interested in my mother's stories. When my mother was sick with cancer, her conversations with Aunt Jo served as an escape from life's pain, and I have always felt grateful for the loyalty and care that Aunt Jo gave to my mother during her illness.
That Aunt Jo lived such a long life despite having serious health issues speaks to her fiesty spirit and strong will. I pray she is at peace and imagine her reconnecting with my mother, Uncle Pat, and all the Pancione family members who have passed.
With love and sympathy for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
