Rickert, Michael
Irondequoit: Thursday, September 9, 2021. He was born in Stillwater Minn. to Robert and Gretchen Kolliner Rickert three days after Pearl Harbor. He was raised in Stillwater and graduated from Duluth East High. He then joined the Navy and served on submarines, Becuna SS319 and George Washington SSB(n) 598. After service Mike attended the University of Minnesota, where he received bachelors and masters degrees in mechanical engineering. He also met and married Mary Ellen Isvik. Together they produced 3 amazing children; Sean (Cindy) of Arizona, Eric (Kristin) of Buffalo, and NatEllen "Nekr"(Chris) of Massachusetts. who produced 6 strong, capable, intelligent grandchildren, Josh, Croix, Cedar, Lars, Nathalia & Samuel, and 4 adorable great-grandchildren. Mike worked at Eastman Kodak until his retirement. After retirement he became a "jack" enjoying many skills and talents; he was a blacksmith, a cainer, a glass blower, a story teller, a historian, a builder and creator. He found great joy in exploring the world, and saw every corner he possibly could, from China to Cape Hope, Luxembourg to Loas, India to New Zealand to Machu Picchu and everywhere in between; not to mention all the adventures he found in the United States. As a world traveler he learned that while there are needs in the world that we can help with, there is joy and greatness in other ways of life unlike his own. He would ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Doctors Without Borders. Services will be held at a later date.
