Dear Thoburn Family,
I'm so sorry for your loss, though join you in celebrating Edith's 95 well-lived years. As the alumni director at Gettysburg College, I know she was a loyal and passionate alumna, and we were proud to count her among our graduates. She was a rarity, majoring in chemistry as a woman in the 1940s, and displayed her love of Gettysburg through staying connected and supportive in a number of ways over the next 73 years. I'm afraid I never met her - she attended her 50th reunion two years before I started working here - but I am impressed to see that she attended an alumni event in the Rochester area at the age of 90!
Again, please accept my condolences, and I hope that you are comforted by a lifetime of warm memories.
Joe Lynch '85
Alumni Director, Gettysburg College
Edith was a long time friend and a Judicial Process Commission supporter for the past 35 years. Edith was the Editor of the newsletter, The Conciliator, a newsletter published by JPC from roughly 1984 to 2000 which described our conflict resolution work in Rochester Schools and the wider community. Edith introduced us to Rev. Paul Womack who also was an active JPCer for many years. Edith was a gentle soul who will be missed by her friends at JPC and I will remember her as a person who deeply cared about justice and her community.
