I'm so deeply saddened to learn of Sue's death. She and I were roommates for two years in college at Smith. It was clear from the beginning that the Dean assigned us to each other because we were so extremely different. She was the most important part of my college education: brilliant, funny, irreverent, fearless, deeply engaged in art and in the community we forged in Lawrence House. I was scared to death of the arts when I arrived. Sue offered a window into an entirely new world. We reconnected in the last year as our class prepares for our 50th reunion. Our exchanges were filled with photos and stories about our families. I'm so glad to have learned more about her boys and grandkids. She loved you with all her heart, as you well know. I will keep Sue close in my own heart in coming years, and hope to live as inspired and courageous a life as she did with what time remains. Like many, I am deeply indebted to her. My heartfelt sympathy to her family. Patty Hager

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Sue. I didn't really have an opportunity to know her as an adult but I am amazed by all of the activities she was involved in. I remember Sue being so smart and talented as a teenager, not only in school but also as an artist. She always seemed so mature that I didn't realize she was only 3 years older than me. I am glad that she and her sister Judi had a close relationship and were able to make some really good memories together. The entire Dows family were a wonderful family and I know they cherished each other and must have smiled at the memories of each family member. I know I do.

Sue and I traveled the CMML journey together, were on the same chemo and went to the same hospitals for care. We spoke or texted several times/week and shared many of the same views on life and politics. We were both active in Compassion and Choices. I feel sort of lost without Sue but I know she is watching over those she loved. She was so courageous and strong and such a great advocate for others who were ill. I miss her terribly and send Ed, Jon and Michael heartfelt condolences. She was the best of the best.

I am very saddened to hear of Susan's passing. I grew up across the street from the Dows family and went through school with Susan. She was a bright star cherished by her friends and admired by her peers. We last spoke at our 50 year high school class reunion and recalled the pride she expressed in her family. My condolences to all of you. Rest in Peace my friend.

I worked with Sue in dialysis for many years. I was fortunate enough to meet up with her again last year at the Wilmot Cancer Center. We had a heartfelt talk and while there were tears, she left me with the same feelings that everything would be okay…just as she did in past conversations. I know she will be so missed. She loved her family fiercely and I am a better person for having known her.

To all of her wonderful family. Thank you for sharing her with me. I met this wonderful woman in Diaylasis at Unity hospital. She was such a Splendid woman. Got me through some hard times there. We shed a tear or two over some shared stories of our lives. She always wore socks and I gave her a few to celebrate special holidays. She would always come in to the treatment room and put her best foot forward to show me. What a treasure she was and I will treasure the fact that I was blessed to have known her. Love and peace my special lady! Miss you

Sue and I were very good friends from middle school and beyond. I have many fond memories of the Dows family and our little circle of friends. I am thankful that we continued our friendship as adults. She was caring and generous and beautiful, both inside and out. I last messaged her a month ago, sharing a silly childhood memory. (We tried to make wine out of crushed grapes and ended up with a moldy mess.) I wondered if I had just dreamt that whole experiment up since it was so long ago but she assured me that it had been real. I will miss sharing memories with her. She will always have a special place in my heart. May her memory be a blessing.

Sue was such a bright star, a generous friend who made space at her holiday tables many times, a nutritionist who kept M&Ms in her desk drawer and advertised it with co-workers, who always knew the best restaurants and their desserts, who raised two terrific sons and let her friends love them too. My heart goes out to Sue’s men and legion of friends she treated like family. May we all hold Sue close all the rest of our days.

What a beautiful soul you are Sue. I thank you for teaching me how to master the crossword puzzle (mid 1990’s) which is something I truly do daily and always think of you with each puzzle. I loved working with you at St Mary’s hospital in the 90’s. What a blast we had. I will forever cherish our talks about gardening and food. Your smile and easy laughter brightened every room.
My thoughts are with ‘Big’ and the rest of the family. Peace and love.
