Obituary of Jane T. Duerr
Jane V. Taylor Duerr passed away peacefully in her sleep at St. Ann’s Nursing Home on October 22, 2023. She had just celebrated her 100th birthday the previous month. She was predeceased by her husband, Warren, and her three elder siblings, Ruth, Helen and Harwood. She is survived by her four children, David, Karin, Christina and Christian, as well as eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Jane grew up in Rochester, NY, and graduated from East High School. She continued on to the University of Rochester where she met her future husband, Warren, an engineering student. After one year she went into the workforce as a secretary at Eastman Kodak. Once Warren returned from the war, they married and she became a homemaker. With the arrival of their first child they moved to Irondequoit where they raised their four children. She remained in the house for the next sixty years.
Jane was an active member for many years of The Downtown Presbyterian Church having served many times as an elder or a deacon. She was also active in her church guild. She was an active knitter, baker and bridge player. She enjoyed skiing and bicycling with her family and sailed Lightnings at the Newport Yacht Club on Irondequoit bay. For many years she and Warren camped in the Adirondacks and, later, spent time at their nephew’s cabin on Limekiln Lake.
Jane will be interred at the Webster Rural Cemetery on Ridge Road near her parents. There will be a brief graveside ceremony. Any donations should be made to The Downtown Presbyterian Church Rochester, NY (downtownpresbyterian.org) No flowers, please.
