Codding, June D.

Irondequoit: Wednesday, December 13, 2023.

June D. Codding (née DeWitt) was born on September 28th, 1932 to first generation immigrants from the Netherlands, Anna DeKramer and Ray DeWitt. A life-long resident of Rochester, New York, June grew up in the city of Rochester and attended East High School.  In 1951, she married Paul L. Codding of Charlotte, and they raised their four children in the town of Irondequoit.

June Codding went to work as a professional secretary, first at Rochester General & Electric, and later in the medical office of podiatrist, Dr. Richlin. She was actively involved in the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts, volunteering in a variety of positions. Having grown up in Rochester, she had a long history and connection with the Charlotte area, and was heavily involved with the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse, giving generously of her time.

Her love of boating began at a young age in correlation with her proximity to Lake Ontario and the Genesee River. She carried her love of boating with her into adulthood, which she enjoyed in conjunction with camping and traveling.

June was a sewing enthusiast and talented seamstress. She knitted and sewed countless clothes for her family and friends. Each year, she made Christmas outfits for her children and grandchildren. June also enjoyed creating and sharing quilts with her loved ones. She made caps and blankets for newborns, which she donated to area hospitals.

June was an excellent cook and baker. She had a love of food, particularly desserts such as coconut cake (which she shared with her dog Kodi), eclairs, cream puffs, and chocolate. Her candy cane cookies, which she made at Christmas time, were a particular favorite among her family members.
