Obituary of Marie H. Mintz

Marie Kirk Mintz

On January 22, 2024, Marie Mintz, loving mother of four children, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, died peacefully in Homestead, Florida where she was residing in an Assisted Living Facility.

Marie was born on November 14, 1923 in Corning, NY to Gertrude Reichart and Arthur Kirk. Marie, at the age of 100, outlived her husband, Charles and two of her children, Kirk and Laura. She also outlived her two brothers, Arthur and Robert Kirk. Marie is survived by her daughter, Christine, her son Brian; grandchildren Eric Huck, Darlene Whittall, Jason Magdits, Michele Huck, and Erika Watson; great grandchildren Megan Huck, Danny Whittall, Amelia Whittall, Miles Watson, Charles Whittall, Jasper Magdits, and Leo Watson.

Marie graduated from Nazareth College in 1946 with a degree in Chemistry. She worked as a chemist at Beechnut Packing Company until WWII ended and the women were sent home. She married Charles Mintz on September 11, 1948 and they had four children. She volunteered at St. Ann's Home for 20+ years at their in-house library. She took her "job" very seriously and had a passion for books. Marie was also an avid swimmer and stayed very active her whole life, most likely contributing to her longevity.

Her family and life long college friends were everything to her. She preferred lunches out and shopping with her friends or daughters to being domestic at home. She was always on the go and also loved to travel.

No funeral services will be held immediately; plans will be arranged for a small group gathering in early May. She will be buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery next to her husband and two children. She will be greatly missed.
