Banks, Almarine R.
Irondequoit: Almarine Russell Banks fell asleep in death on April 6, 2024 in Rochester, New York at the age of 96. She was born on August 8, 1927 to the late James Sydney and Ada Lovey Russell in Tuskegee, Alabama. She was the youngest of 7 children.
Almarine was a graduate of Tuskegee University. She taught school in Phenix City, Alabama and in the Buffalo, New York Public School system (Schools #41 and #8) for 40 years. Almarine loved family, her historic hometown of Tuskegee, teaching, and sharing Bible truths with others about her God Jehovah. She wrote poetry, journals, songs, and enjoyed painting.
Almarine was predeceased by her husband, Cato Jackson Banks, Jr. Surviving her are three (3) children: Faye (Isaac) Smith, Brentwood, TN; Jerry (Myoshi) Banks, Alexandria, VA. and Benjamin Banks, Rochester, NY. Seven (7) grandchildren who know her as "Mommie Rine:" Jamin (Brandy) Smith, Jovan Banks, Jeremy Banks, Jessica (Bryant) Brady Jr., Franchesca Smith, Janine (Jason) Stoner, Jarrett Banks. Sisters in law: Minnie Belton, Daisy Britton, Bettye (Donald) Lee, Nettye (Winford) Andrews, and Martha Banks. She leaves many cousins including Sylvester Dowdell; and a host of nephews and nieces including Dennis Harrison, and many good friends.
Friends are invited to join her family on April 21, 2024 at 1:30 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (500 Kings Hwy So., Rochester, NY) for her memorial service. Her service will also be on Zoom, please check the Harris Funeral Home Website.
Interment was held privately.
