Obituary of Sharon D. Ahlman
Sharon D. Ahlman
Irondequoit: Monday, September 2, 2024, at 87. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard J. Ahlman. Her children survive her, Diane (George Smith) Ahlman, John (Lizzy Susan Smelt) Ahlman; grandchildren, Catherine (Nick) Morffy Smith, Marion (Taylor) Seabaugh, Jacob (Jennifer), Luke (Caitlin), Ana (Tripp) Gordon, Patrick Smelt; great-grandsons, Owen Richard Seabaugh and Mason Jacob Ahlman; brother, Steve (Teri) Fogt, brother-in-law, Ronald A. Ahlman.
Born in Anna, Ohio, Sharon started her nursing career at age 17, working at the local hospital. Soon after graduating from Miami University Nursing School, she met the love of her life, Richard, in October 1959 and married him in June 1960. A few months later, they moved to Rochester, where they made lifelong friends and enjoyed traveling, cultural events, sailing, skiing, and contributing to her church and community.
Sharon had a long career at Genesee Hospital as an operating room nurse. She helped define and create some of the country's first prenatal care and support programs long before they became popular in support of women's health. She retired from the hospital in 1995, but it didn't last—within weeks, she was nursing at a Genesee Valley OBGYN, where she continued until age 79. She LOVED being a nurse.
Sharon treasured time with her children, Grandchildren, and, most recently, Great Grandsons. She traveled the world with her soulmate Dick Ahlman and loved to discover new cultures and humanity in every corner of the globe.
Energetic until the end, her wisdom, quick smile, and willingness to love and support her family and friends defined her life. She lived with faith and gratitude for all her blessings.
Sharon's Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 28, at 12:00 p.m. at Irondequoit United Church of Christ. Calling hours will also be at the IUCC from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on 9/28/24.
Interment will be Private.
In remembrance of Sharon Ahlman's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Irondequoit United Church of Christ, 644 Titus Ave. Rochester, New York 14617.
