Rochester: Died peacefully on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at the age of 83. She is survived by her daughter Gina (Adam) Stein, and her beloved only grandchild Dayne Stein, brother Edmund (Elaine) Saetta, numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was a progressive single mother who balanced her career as a dental assistant and motherhood at a time when this was not the norm. She believed in living a natural life by eating good foods and staying free from chemicals, artificial colors and sweeteners. This, decades before it became a trend and much to the determent of her young daughter. One of her favorite books was Silent Spring by Rachel Carson
Phyllis was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Rochester and started working in dental offices in 1947. Phyllis was one of the first dental assistants to become certified in New York. She also was President of the Dental Assistants Associations for 5 years. She worked at the Anthony Jordan Health Center serving the community for 21 years. Her passion was helping people and educating them about health issues. She was extremely compassionate and in tune to people's needs. Her hobbies included, skiing, horseback riding, golf and coloring photographs.
Her family will receive friends Friday 12:00pm to 1:00pm at the funeral home where her memorial service will follow at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Anthony Jordan health center 82 Holland St., Rochester, NY 14605.
