Bretz, Robert L.
Irondequoit: Thursday, August 16, 2012 at age 84. Predeceased by his parents, Reinhard and Agnes Bretz, he is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, A. Linda; three children, Erika Bretz, John (Diane) and David (Michelle); four grandchildren, Jennifer Kelley, Robert and Kathleen Bretz and Chanelle Clerc; a brother, John P. (June); sister-in-law, Rose (James) Curran; brother-in-law, John (Carol) Mazza, several nieces and nephews and many good friends
As a knowledgeable librarian, photographer and typographer, photography and printing historian and avid collector of books, cameras, type and printing presses, Bob assisted photo researchers at George Eastman House and students at both Rochester Institute of Technology and the Visual Studies workshop during the course of his career in Rochester.
The family would like to extend their grateful thanks to the kind and loving staff of the Baird Nursing Home who cared for Bob in the final months of his life.
Interment will be private, but a memorial celebration will be held in Bob's honor on Wed., Aug. 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dock 2 Letterpress and Print Shop, 855 Publishers Parkway, Webster, NY (north of Rte 104 bet. Five Mile Line and Hard Roads, opposite Webster Thomas H.S.), where his press and type collections are still in use. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to George Eastman House Museum of Photography or the Alzheimer's Association.
