Obituary of Petro Kosenko

Fairview PA: Petro Kosenko age 90, died peacefully September 2, 2012 at Fairview Manor, Erie, PA after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born July 18, 1922 in Dolinska, Ukraine. He was the son of Elizabeth Puhach and Dmytro Kosenko. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife Daria Kostko, whom he married in 1943 in the slave labor camps of WWII Germany. After the war he lived in Venezuela from 1948 till he settled in Rochester, NY in 1963 where he worked in the photography industry. He lived in Philadelphia in the 1990's and in 2002 he moved to Erie to be with his family. He was always active in the Ukrainian community and the Ukrainian Orthodox church. Throughout his life he pursued his passion for writing and published three books of sonnets and other poetry in Ukrainian. In 1992 he was invited to become a member of the National Writers Union of Ukraine. He traveld to Kyiv to accept this high honor. He is survived by a daughter Elizabeth Fedoriw and husband Dr. Wiacheslaw Fedoriw of Ft. Wayne, IN, son Dr. Alexander Kosenko and wife Anna of Fairview, PA, grandchildren Natalka, Wasyl, Bohdan, Oleh, Mykola, nephews Edward and Oleh Kostko of Venezuela whom he raised, and their families, and relatives in Ukraine. His family will receive friends FRIDAY 4:00 - 7:00pm at the funeral home (570 Kings Hwy South). Panachyda 6:30pm. Friends are invited to meet the family SATURDAY 10:00am at ST. MARY'S UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH for his Divine Liturgy. Interment Riverside Cemetery.
