I have sat dow to writ this so many times in the past week but could not come up with the right words. To my angel....our Joe....the past year has been filled with trials and tribulations and you were the epitome of strength and bravery through it all. I will forever cherish our time together, laughing, crying and reminiscing about all of your adventures (and there were many)! I feel an emptiness that only time can heal. I am so truly grateful for family and friends who continue to keep your memory alive by sharing stories and how you touched each of their our) lives. I miss you....love you more than you know....and you will forever be my angel. Until we meet again.......

I once heard that grief is the price we pay for love , such a simple statement...
May your family find comfort by knowing how loved Joey was, may your hearts be lifted sharing your memories of his spirit of laughter. I knew Joey as a child and later as a friend. My cousins cousin. My friend who always made me laugh. Rest in peace.

When I think of Joe- what I remember most was the way he would greet you with the warmest hugs and his great stories told with that quirky smile. I would wait in high anticipation for the punch line or that final moment when he would break out in his signature laugh! I will remember those hugs, I will never forget that smile, and I will long for that laugh. Joe- I will miss you brother. To Lisa and the entire Schmidt family, I am so sorry and my thoughts and prayers go out to each of you. He was definitely one of the "good guys" and I feel fortunate to have known him.

Joe, you were one of the best friends I ever had. I will always cherish all the fun times we shared. We laughed together so much. We also had some very serious discussions, which really made me realize what a truly kind, caring, sincere , honest and absolutely wonderful person you are.. We shared our struggles, you helped me in so many ways, and I hope I helped you as much as you helped me. You were truly one of a kind. You will always be in my heart and I am so glad to have had the privilege to be one of your best friends. I love you and I will never forget you, ever.....

To the Schmidt family,
My heart breaks for your loss. And all though they say with time, you to shall heal, I do believe that time will heal the sadness but never the loss. A part of all of us who knew Joe, will always miss his presence, his laughter. The sadness will be replaced with a smile eventually but the loss… we carry in our hearts. I have learned so much from all of you, mainly through Cathy. Mike, through your stoic calmness in times of hardships. To Mare who brings the laughter. For the sensitivity that showers Cathy, to the sunshine that flows through Jeannie. The knowledge and courage that Patti has shown and the artistic and no nonsense attitude that runs through Dan. The strength, courage and loving person that evolved into Joe, are all attributes taught and inspired by such loving and caring parents! Every child should be as lucky as to have parents like you! Just know, that each of you, have contributed to Joe’s life in some way. May your memories and your love help you in your loss. And know in your heart that Joe’s life has just begun, in the arms of our Lord. Love you all! Debbie

I remember Joey best from when y'all would visit when we were kids. Joey loved being "down on the farm" and would sometimes hide in an attempt to keep from going home. Not only was he well-loved by our Grandma Lau, but my Granny Wilson thought he was really someone special. Everyone who met Joe knew he was someone special. I know he will be missed. My prayers and special thoughts to you all.
