I was so sorry to hear of Girts passing, I heard after the services were over. I knew Girts from City Hall. He was a kind man that loved people, and always had a smile whether at work or the local Y. May he live on in your memories and that be a comfort to you and your family at this difficult time. My deepest sympathy.

Velta, if I could, I would squeeze you hard, encircle you not with arms, but with the loveliest melody ever written, containing theme and counterpoint of the lives of Girts and Velta intertwined. And as it played, you would remember and feel the joy of all the pleasant times you both enjoyed together, all your adventures as the high notes, all the touching and sad times as minor chords in passing. I can only imagine this melody in my mind, but I am passing it on to you, because I hope it might bring some comfort as it resonates in your heart, your poor, broken heart. Your fellow musician, Barbara

Velta and family,
I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of your husband. Such a shock and terrible loss of such a fine, taken way too soon man. May your memories of him and the love and support of your family and friends help you through this most difficult time. I remember the last time I saw Girts was at a Latvian school function, we always talked about photography as that too is a passion of mine. He said the next time we came to a function he'd take a family picture of my family with his wonderful camera. I will always, remember his kindness and humor. May God wrap his arms around your family.

Dear Velta and family, My husband Lewis and I send our condolences. I only met Girts once while visiting my sister Christine but he seemed a cheerful person. So sorry for your loss. We will gladly donate to OMFA.

Condolences to Velta, Silvija and Aleksandrs on their loss of a life taken too soon. I recall with gratitude Girts, and Velta's, assistance during construction of the Latvian Museum in Rockville, MD in the late 1970s as well as their friendship since then. He was a kind and optimistic soul and a Latvian and American patriot. He will be missed.
