Obituary of Joseph C. Maid

Joseph Maid left this earth on Friday, April 17, 2020 at the age of 98 after a decade long battle with Alzheimer's and dementia. Joe was predeceased by his loving wife of 27 years, Mary Alice Maid (Hogan), Sisters; Patricia Miller, Joan Weidemiller, Shirley Pierce and Brother Lawrence Maid, and their spouses. Survived by his sister Mary Jane Hastings (Maid), many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
Joe graduated from Aquinas Institute and attended the University of Buffalo until he enlisted in the Navy. He became a Pharmacist's mate and spent two years at the Naval hospital at New Caledonia in the South Pacific. He cared for wounded soldiers during the battle of Iwo Jima and the Guadalcanal campaign.
After the war, Joe completed his education and became a pharmacist working at Bryant Drugs and several other drug stores in the Rochester area.
He loved golfing at Lake Shore Country Club and skiing at Holiday Valley. He also loved singing and dancing. Joe was a member of both the Holy Rosary and Sacred Heart Church Choirs for many years. He won several Jitterbug contests in his youth.
At age 60, he met Mary Alice. Joe and Mary Alice were active members of Sacred Heart Cathedral. They traveled extensively in the US and Europe during their early retirement years.
Many thanks to the kind staff of Hurlbut nursing home for their loving care of uncle Joe in the last year of his life.
