Obituary of James P. Cullen

James Patrick Cullen (1954-2024) James Patrick Cullen, 69, of Irondequoit NY, passed away from post-surgery complications on May 13, 2024. Jim was born in Rochester's 19th Ward on June 15, 1954, to James and Jeanette (nee Kuhn) Cullen. Some of his favorite memories took place in that neighborhood. He met his wife, Lynn, while studying at SUNY Geneseo. They married in Elmira Heights, NY in 1981. He was a hard worker who devoted much time and energy into his career in construction, but in his heart his life revolved around his family and friends. Jim's favorite things included horse racing, the Rochester Red Wings, feeding his family and friends, and taking his grandchildren on adventures. He was a great husband, dad, son, brother, and friend, but a perfect Grandpa. Jim was predeceased by his father, James Joseph Cullen; his father in law, Howard and his mother in law, Vivian. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Durfey Cullen (nee Balmer); his daughters, Frances (Andrew) and Elizabeth (Andre); his mother, Jeanette; his grandchildren Mikko, Nellie, and Amaya; his siblings Colleen, Kathy, Sheila, Midge, Pat, Danny, and Matt; his many nieces and nephews. He was also beloved by a group of friends that he considered to be his chosen family. Jim's family will receive extended family and friends Friday, May 17, 4:00-7:00 pm at the Paul W. Harris Funeral Home (570 Kings Highway So.). Services and interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed in Jim's memory to the Highland Park Conservancy Children's Pavilion.
